Radon mitigation in Draper, Utah
Draper has one of the deepest sets of state radon test results of any single area in Salt Lake County, which makes its average one of the more reliable ones.
Draper at a glance. About 2,500 short-term tests through Utah's state program (2006–2019) averaged 4.5 pCi/L, with 36% at or above 4 (Source: Utah IBIS). Six in ten Draper homes were built in 2000 or later (Source: U.S. Census ACS).
Draper radon test results
| Area (Utah IBIS small area) | Average, pCi/L | 95% range of the average | Tests at or above 4 | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Draper | 4.5 | 4.19–4.72 | 36.3% | 1,821 |

Why the sample size matters: IBIS reports a confidence range for each area's average. Draper's is narrow, 4.19 to 4.72, because there are so many tests. Areas with a few hundred tests have much wider ranges. So "about 4.5" is a solid description of what Draper short-term tests have looked like. It still says nothing certain about any one house. Draper's housing splits between 1980s–90s homes (33%) and post-2000 construction (62%), including homes on the bench and in newer valley-floor subdivisions (Source: U.S. Census ACS). What that means in practice:
- Many tests here come from home sales. Utah's program data includes tests done "for personal knowledge or retail transactions" (Source: Utah IBIS). If you're buying or selling in Draper, plan for radon in your due-diligence timeline. Utah home-sale walkthrough.
- Hillside and walkout basements often have part of the slab below grade and part at grade, which can affect how many suction points are needed. Suction points and cost.
- Newer homes may have a passive radon pipe; in Utah it's the builder's choice (Source: Utah Code 15A-3-206). New construction.
Cost in Draper
No Draper-specific price data yet. Utah's typical figure is about $1,800–$2,000 (Source: Utah DEQ). Larger footprints and walkout basements may need a second suction point. The estimator shows how that moves the range. Get written bids from licensed contractors, and ask about city permit requirements.
